A note from the director

The wonderful journey Creative Canary has had so far has been nothing short of amazing. Learn about that journey and the direction it's heading within this article.

Hi, I’m Phil La Rosa.

Designing websites and brand identities is my passion and I’ve been fortunate enough to be doing so since 2009. If you’re reading this, you’ve either been working with my agency, or you’re considering working with us soon.

In March 2009, I started my journey as a freelancer at the age of sixteen. Between then and 2015, I had not only worked for myself but multiple design agencies to absorb as much knowledge and experience as I could. In 2015, I decided to turn my freelancing gig into an agency – Creative Canary.

We grew rapidly. Not only by the number of clients, staff members and projects, but the services that we offered. We soon became an SEO company, hosting company, digital advertising managers, social media managers and even print suppliers. By 2017, we were no longer a website and graphic design agency, we were a full-service digital agency.

Earlier this year, I had a meeting with a client who has been working with me since the start of it all. The meeting went for 3 hours, and at the end of the meeting, both the client and I realised we hadn’t once mentioned a single topic about the project we were working on. It was in that moment, I realised I had lost this connection with many other relationships in business. I was simply the puppet master. Quoting projects, managing them, managing my team, and then sending an invoice. I was no longer the designer who was passionate about designing. This needed to change.

2020 has been the start of a new beginning.

Creative Canary is now a two-man team. You will be working with yours truly and Anthony, my right (and left) hand man. Anthony and I met ten years ago, while we were both studying and has been part of the team since 2015. With a wealth of combined knowledge and years of experience working together with our clients, it’s easy to say – you’re in safe hands. We want to work with each one of you, directly. From scoping your project and finding the best solution for you, to creating every pixel of detail until it’s perfect. Then, of course, launching your brand or website and celebrating its success with you!

This year, we are refining the way we do business (thanks for giving us the gentle nudge we needed, covid-19). We will continue to focus on what we are best at; websites, graphics and my favourite part of it all, relationships. While we maintain our current relationships with our wonderful clients of all sizes, moving forward we will be focusing our attention on smaller, local businesses and start-ups – with a focus on non-for-profits.

With no big overheads like additional designers and an office, we get to focus on what is most important to us… you. We are super excited to see what the remainder of 2020 brings us and look forward to the continued journey of Creative Canary with you.

So, if you don’t want to work with a big agency who is only interested in the bottom line and you want to be hands on with your project and work with designers who are passionate about what they are creating, you’ve definitely come to the right place.

Let’s grab a coffee and plan the continued success of your business together.

Big love, Phil
